About This Project
West Elm needed an elegant way to hang large rugs from the center of their stores that was visible from all sides, able to hold any rug thickness, and simple for staff to use. The solution also needed to scale with multiple fixtures needed in every store in the Western Hemisphere.
Reworking something as common as a rug fixture required a fresh take on both form and function. Research and early renderings set the direction, and several rounds of prototyping helped direct a final design. The final design delivered a clean aesthetic, durable construction, and smooth one person operation.
To align with West Elm’s sustainability standards, the fixture was built from locally sourced Douglas Fir. A Moxon-style clamping mechanism secures rugs of any thickness while maintaining a minimal, sculptural presence on the store floor.
