About This Project
RightOnTrek set out to rethink backcountry meal packaging by moving away from heavy, multi-decade shelf-life formats common in the outdoor and survival industry. Their goal was to create packaging designed for meals for the next adventure as opposed to designing for a product that can sit on the shelf for 30 years.
A solution was developed using fully bio-based material derived from tree pulp, eliminating plastics and reducing environmental impact without compromising durability. Packaging was designed for two and four serving formats, cutting material usage by up to 75% compared to traditional single-serve pouches. The result is packaging that aligns with modern expectations for sustainability and performance and has contributed to RightOnTrek’s recognition as a nominee for the Outdoor Industry Association’s Innovation Award.
